BusTech Group

Local electric bus manufacturing

To assist our manufacturing industry, the South Australian Government supported BusTech Group (SA) to develop and manufacture prototype electric buses.

BusTech Group has grown to be the largest Australian-owned bus manufacturer, focusing on zero-emissions technology development and manufacturing with local supplier partnerships. The transition to providing innovative zero-emission transport solutions reinforces BusTech Group’s commitment to smart engineering and accelerating the future of clean, efficient and emission-free public transport in Australia.

BusTech Group recently announced a battery electric bus technology partnership with Silicon Valley-based Proterra, and a hydrogen fuel cell and electric bus technology partnership with US-based Cummins/Hydrogenics.

The partnerships with BusTech Group facilitate integration of the most advanced and energy dense battery technology, and industry-leading fuel cell technology into the Australian mass mobility sector. BusTech Group is now preparing to deliver battery electric and fuel cell buses for government and private clients across Australia.

BusTech Group’s commitment to the manufacture and development of a sustainable zero-emission bus ecosystem will create next-generation jobs and further stimulate the Australian economy. For example, BusTech Group uses a supply chain that is over 95% located in Australia, ensuring the lowest possible carbon emission manufacturing footprint of any bus available in Australia.

The partnerships will deliver battery electric and fuel cell city buses with market-leading range and operational performance. BusTech Group is aligned with South Australia’s goal to reduce net emissions and recognize that the decarbonisation of transport, and particularly the provision of greater zero-emission public mobility options, are key contributors to improving the productivity, liveability and sustainability of the state’s communities.

Following the rapid growth of zero-emission buses across Europe, North America and China, the partnership positions Adelaide as a major manufacturing centre for zero emission buses.
